Surfi Surfi in Peniche

Surf Mecca, Surf City, European Pipeline, Always Offshore, most consistent… The area’s surf camps and hotels don’t skimp on superlatives when it comes to advertising the surfing conditions in and around Peniche.
The propaganda works, and by now everyone whose ever stood on a surfboard knows that the surf here is pretty good. You’ll rarely be alone in the water, but assuming you follow surf etiquette, you’ll have a good session.

Cantinho
See and be seen, everybody against everybody, surf schools galore, or multi-car pile-up.
Welcome to the hell of Cantinho in Baleal!
Anyone who is looking to surf set waves or already feeling a bit tense should avoid this spot. Slalom surfers or friends of the inside of the inside have a clear advantage here.

Lagide
Melting pot. Beginners, absolute beginners, intermediates, surf instructors, shortboarders, longboarders, groms, parents, locals… You name it… They’re all here or melting into one big pile of line-up. The take off area is small, and if everyone who is surfing here would be able to follow the priority rules then many people would be happy.

Secrets
Like any secret spot, rarely crowded, but also rarely truly good.
If everything comes together, like wind direction, wave direction, wave size, and the right sandbars, you can have the session of the year. But only then.
Please come by foot and don’t park on the dirt road or on the cliff.

Supertubos
Supers, toobs, supertubes, supertubos, or Portuguese Pipeline. The wave at Praia do Medão Grande has many names and is well-known from radio and television. Only one question remains: “Nice wave, but did you get barreled?”
