How to get to Peniche by Bus

Save time and money with our travel tips and information.

The closest Airport to Peniche is Lisbon Portela Airport (85km, 90 minutes by bus or 45 minutes by car). Porto (250 km) and Faro (350km) can also be an option because the flight ticket is usually cheaper than to Lisbon.

Portugal has a large network of bus connections which is run by comfortable long-distance carriers. The buses are as comfortable as a train, cheaper, equipped with air condition, wifi connection and usually quiet empty. With a little bit of luck you can make yourself comfortable on two seats.

From Lisbon Airport to Peniche

It cannot get any easier than by taxi, just get in and drive off. For bigger or bulky luggage such as surfboards, taxi drivers are allowed to charge an additional fee. The drive takes just under an hour and costs between 90€ and 120€. More often Uber is an option and of course cheaper than a taxi.

To go to Peniche by bus it takes about two hours and costs 8-9 €. If you arrive in the evening we recommend the Rodo Tejo Linha Azul from Campo Grande bus terminal. The buses run until 10 p.m. (Terminal Rodoviário do Campo Grande, Estrada de Telheiras, 1600-616 Lisbon). At other time of day, Rede Expressos from Seté Rios bus station (Rodoviário de Lisboa terminal, Rua Prof. Lima Basto 133 1500-423 Lisbon) is the better choice.

The taxi (8-10 €) is the fastest option to get to one of the two bus terminals. Unless you are in the taxi queue at the exit in front of the arrival terminal, then it would be the slowest option. A better way is to go to the entrance of the departure terminal. That is less than 200m at Lisbon airport. There is no taxi queue and you can jump easy into the cab and go. With little traffic it takes 5 minutes and during rush hour 15 minutes to one of the bus terminals. If you have more time (35 minutes) take the metro to Campo Grande (1.5 €). You have to change once at Alamada into the green line, see metro map. The bus stop is a little bit hidden in front of the NOS office complex at Campo Grande.

To Seté Rios bus terminal you can take the AERO bus in front of the Airport. It runs every 30 minutes between 08:15 a.m. and 09:15 p.m., depending on traffic it takes 15 to 50 minutes and costs 4€. Tickets are available at the bus driver. The metro (1.5€) takes 35 minutes and you have to change once at São Sebastião into the blue line, see metro map. Get off at the Seté Rios stop, walk to the Terminal Rodoviário, buy a ticket at the counter or online and jump into the Rede Expressos to Peniche. Once you arrive here do not get off in the city, wait for the second stop “Terminal Rodoviário”. From there get a taxi and head to Baleal (7-10€) or Ferrel (10-15€).
